I bought it on ebay a few years ago. I think this may be the only 34" scale, fretted bass that charles orr made. I read on the internet that he only made a few basses and the others i've seen pictures of are short scale and/or frettless. The quality of the materials and the workmanship are excellent. The neck is unusual. It's thin at the nut but the back of the neck is shaped like a rectangle with rounded off edges. The neck has a solid but chunky feel. The only thing i don't like about the bass is the pickup placement. I think the bridge pickup was mounted too close to the bridge and the bass pickup was too far from the bridge. I would love to put a passive bartolini musicman pickup between the two existing hi-a (early bartolini) pickups but the bass is much too rare to modify so i won't change it. Take care, joe cox. I bought it after it was returned from the ZZ Top Fan Club, where it was to be given away as a prize in a contest. A brief conversation with Max sealed the deal, and the guitar arrived in Connecticut today. Go to my website and you'll see my Dove and me on videos playing various songs there.

billbinnings.com also: sambalatte.com

I also do custom guitar setups (long time!) and when I let folks play the Dove their jaw drops!! It is a joy to play, indeed. I use 10 gauge light strings, D'adarrio 80/20 bronze EXP's (Nano-coated) and they sound huge without making the guitar hard to play. They also put less stress on the top which is why it is still intact after all these years. I ordered it from Kalamazoo in 1968 and am the original owner since new. It is ALL original, grovers, frets, saddles, tune-o-matic...neck never off the guitar. Original frets still work, I play-out every Friday at a coffee shop with a drop-in pickup and a practice amp with a Line-6 Pocket Pod. OHSC is in fine shape, guitar is in "very good" condition. Best playing acoustic ever in my hands, everyone who has ever played it agrees. My sound....AWESOME tone, open wood is super mellow. Huge bass response, I fill the room even without the amp.
